AIA FLINT – Member Highlights

Freeman Greer and Architecture

I graduated in 1981 from Kearsley High School.  I am a graduate of Lawrence Technological University with a Master of Architecture Degree.  I became a licensed architect in 1993, and have been a principal architect since 1996.

I have designed buildings throughout southeast Michigan as the Principal Architect for GAV Associates.  I was presented the Governor’s Award for Historical Preservation for the 7-story First Street Lofts project, and received recognition for my work on the Flint Vehicle City Arches and Downtown Flint facades.  Other local projects include Stockton Center at Spring Grove, Hamilton Community Health Network in Burton, and I am designing my first LEED registered project for Hamilton Community Health Network Main facility in Flint.

Architecture for me is a career that I enjoy every day.  It provides a small income that is used to support my 4 young girls who are all at home, and my wife of 26 years.  AIA Flint has been part of my career for 20 years.  I have been secretary, vice president, and president.  I am now the chapter director.  The AIA has provided me guidance through their national programs, and given me a way to learn outside of the day to day operations of my office.  I have had the opportunity to share my thoughts with friends that understand what architecture is, and to work with them in promoting our profession.  During my term as president, we celebrated AIA’s 150th birthday by working with a Flint neighborhood, MHNA.  This project has given the Flint Chapter the opportunity to establish itself as a leader in Flint’s planning.  The architecture of Flint is an extraordinary asset that will be a vital part of Flint’s future.
